Ray-Ban: a revolution in the world of optics since 1853

The origins of the Ray Ban brand date back to 1853, when the two opticians Bausch & Lomb founded their ophthalmology and research company. Their aim was to design the first sunglasses.

From the origins to the advent of the brand

After crossing the Atlantic in a balloon, Lieutenant John A. Macready asked the two opticians to manufacture "panoramic, wraparound protective eyewear". 3 years later, the opticians finalized a lens that filters out infrared and ultraviolet rays: the RB 3. The Ray Ban brand was born in 1937 with the Aviator model, designed for the fighter pilots of the United States Air Force. results,

Innovation and market reconquest: from the Aviator to the Wayfarer

The name Ray Ban was not chosen at random. The word is a compression of Ray-Banner, which in French means "to banish the sun's rays".

During the Second World War, the Aviator model was reworked and appreciated by the entire U.S. Army. In 1952, Ray Ban launched an innovative model, the Wayfarer, which radically transformed eyewear design and broke with the metal model. The Wayfarer was one of the first plastic sunglasses worn at the time by many stars, including Andrey Hepburn in the film "Diamonds on the Couch". Since improved by Chloë Sevigny, the Wayfarer is still worn by many models today.

In 1986, Clubmaster sunglasses made their appearance and proved a big hit with American stars and the general public alike. The Ray Ban brand was taken over by an Italian company: Luxottica. Luxottica is the world leader in the design and distribution of sunglasses and eyeglasses. Thanks to its timeless designs, Ray Ban is one of the few long-established brands that continues to seduce the world, with its line of models constantly in tune with trends.

Ray Ban frames: a variety of collections for everyone

Ray Ban eyewear frames are designed for everyone: children, women and men. The brand even offers Unisex frames. Ray Ban frames are designed for all face shapes and styles: square, round, rectangular, butterfly, oval, Wayfarer and, of course, Aviator.

Aviator and Wayferer, the brand's flagship models

The famous acetate Wayfarers with their iconic trapezoidal shape can be recognized by their flashy colors. They bring a certain personal touch to the wearer. Ray-Ban has innovated with the New Wayfarer, offering more variety in terms of color and size.

Aviator metal glasses come in silver or gold frames. This slightly smaller model, with its more rounded corners, is more suited to slimmer or smaller faces. The Clubmaster is a blend of two models: the Aviator and the Wayfarer. It's a model that reveals a strong forehead, designed to catch the eye.

The Ray Ban Justin is inspired by the Wayfarer, with its wide temples and trapezoidal shape. However, they are larger and more rectangular. With a rubber finish, they are very comfortable to wear.

A refined color palette lets you choose between light and dark tones. Ray Ban sunglasses frames are customizable by MyMonture opticians.
