The history of Vuarnet: an iconic brand with exceptional expertise

The story of the Vuarnet brand began in 1957 in Paris with optician Roger Pouilloux. An avid skier, he invented the "Skilynx", a lens that protects skiers' eyes on the slopes, giving them a true view of the terrain in all weathers. In 1959, Roger Pouilloux, an admirer of Jean Vuarnet's skiing prowess, offered the latter the 02 frame with Skilynx lenses. It was at this time that Joseph Hatchiguian, Pouilloux's collaborator and optical expert, contributed to the brand's development.

In 1960, Jean Vuarnet wore these lenses at the Squaw Valley Winter Olympics and won the gold medal. Following this victory, the two men joined forces and founded the Vuarnet brand.

In 1969, the brand made a name for itself with its 06 model, worn by Romy Schneider and Alain Delon in the film "La piscine". In 1970, the Glacier model became popular both in town and on the slopes. In 1998, the 03 model enjoyed worldwide success thanks to the film The Big Lebowski starring Jeff Bridges.

In 1984, Vuarnet became an official sponsor of the Los Angeles Olympic Games, enabling the brand to enter the USA through the front door.
