Before becoming the MOLESKINE brand, the company was a small publishing house based in Milan, Italy. It was called Modo & Modo. Founded in 1997, the MOLESKINE brand was created to give new life to the notebooks used for over two centuries by thinkers and artists such as Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Bruce Chatwin and Ernest Hemingway. The story of the "Moleskine notebooks" can be found at Editions Gallimard. The novel was published in 1939 by Lucien Jacques.

To this day, the Moleskine brand still offers a range of paper products. You'll find books, application and smart notebooks, writing implements, digital devices and various accessories such as reading, viewing and sunglasses. The company has gradually expanded internationally. It now forms a group that has included Moleskine America, Inc. since 2008, Moleskine Asia Ltd. since 2011 and Moleskine France and Moleskine Germany since 2013. Headquartered in Milan, the company currently employs 550 people.
