Demetz Eyewear

Gilles DEMETZ, CEO of the eponymous company, is the son of Roger DEMETZ. The latter is the creator of the brand, who combined his profession with his passion by becoming an optician and scuba diving professional. After studying optics in Morez, he graduated. His professional career began with the Lissac brothers, before he opened his first boutique in Gannat. In 1950, he moved to Paris, in the 12th arrondissement, where he created his own brand, giving it his patronymic. Over the years, he realized that scuba diving was an aggressive sport for the eyes. So it wasn't long before he was trying to find a solution for seeing underwater. In 1953, he produced the first optically corrected diving mask. Then, in 1957, after various modifications and relentless research, Roger DEMETZ patented his invention. In 1966, he manufactured masks and goggles for board sports, and in 1968, he launched the first optical swimming goggles.

Demetz: much more than a brand of eyewear

Roger DEMETZ is not just a designer of optical products. A very active man, he launched the first diving school in Paris, then the apnea and diving club Subaqua Club de Paris (SCP), and was part of the founding team of the Visual opticians group.

Year after year, the brand designs different types of eyewear for different sports: motorcycling, squash, badminton, mountain and snow sports, outdoor sports, handball, basketball and team sports. Children are also catered for, with models for teenagers and toddlers from 6 months.

In 1988, Gilles DEMETZ, his son, took over. He too is an optician.

to this day, the brand continues to develop specific products for each sporting discipline. DEMETZ's aim is to offer eyewear that combines technical, morphological and visual requirements, so as to provide the best possible protection. The design of DEMETZ frames also remains a priority.

DEMETZ frames to suit your activity

DEMETZ frames are designed to protect your eyes from all external hazards: ultra-violet rays, projections, shocks, wind, rain, snow, dust, infrared... To do this, the brand is constantly researching ways to improve visual perception, with colored filters that increase relief and contrast, depending on the environment of the sport practiced. For each sport, DEMETZ determines what determines the durability and comfort of its frames. Sporting activities demand maximum optical performance and protection, which the brand has succeeded in providing.

The materials used in DEMETZ frames are light, strong, resistant to temperature variations, torsion and impact, and offer perfect stability thanks to anti-slip nasal pads and temple tips. Some DEMETZ frames feature shape memory. Others feature double thermoformed foam. DEMETZ also offers a patented innovation: the Opticop optical insert. This allows you to mount corrective lenses inside your ski mask thanks to flexible fins.

Some frames feature 2-position indexed hinges. These allow you to hang them on your T-shirt to prevent them from falling off or getting lost, or simply to hold the temples in the closed position. DEMETS eyewear frames are available in a wide range of colors. Depending on your needs, you'll easily find the color that's just right for sportswear, or for dressy outings with family or friends. For added comfort, DEMETZ ski helmets are made with fleece-finished foam, guaranteeing warmth for the duration of your sport. If you prefer an over-glasses goggle, choose one with temporal unhooks for passing the temples, and sufficient volume to slide the frame inside.

For scuba divers, a silicone skirt allows them to concentrate on what they're aiming at without being bothered by sun glare when they're close to the surface.

When it comes to corrective lenses, DEMETZ strives to maintain a wide field of vision adapted to the frame. To save time, MyMonture lets you change your habits and try on your eyewear frames in 3D. You can try them on in the comfort of your own home, following the instructions on one of our website pages. You can also contact one of our opticians via our contact form, or by chat or telephone on 03.21.91.40.40.
