Burberry eyewear frames
Founder of the BURBERRY brand, Thomas Burberry opened his first outerwear boutique in Basingstoke, England, at the age of 21.
Thomas Burberry suffered from rheumatism. The idea of making rainwear and outerwear came from his doctor, who advised him to stop wearing rubber raincoats that didn't let his skin breathe. Thomas Burberry invented gabardine, a weather-resistant fabric that allows the skin to breathe. His invention was patented in 1888.
during an operation in the Arctic Circle, Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, polar explorer, zoologist and 1922 Nobel Peace Prize winner, was the first to wear BURBERRY gabardine.
During the First World War, Thomas Burberry dressed British servicemen in "trench coats". The coat reached down to the calves, with epaulets for hanging military equipment. It also features D-buckles to hold grenades, a revolver flap and a storm flap to protect men at the front and allow water to drain away. It is completely waterproof. In 1924, white, black and camel tartan made its appearance.
Thomas Burberry used it as a lining for his rainwear.
The Nova check printed cap was also created.
Over the course of 150 years, BURBERRY has launched several collections: a high-end line, a mid-range line at more affordable prices, and two others, one dedicated to young people with a sports line, and one reserved for children up to the age of 10. The brand has also enriched its collections with numerous accessories: perfumes, cosmetics, bags... and frames for sunglasses and prescription glasses. Today, BURBERRY is often involved in major humanitarian causes for young people, and offers its assistance during major natural disasters.
