Marc Jacobs is an American fashion designer, born in New York in 1963. He met Robert Duffy at the end of his studies. Duffy is an American businessman with whom Marc Jacobs created his label in 1984. In 1986, they presented their first collection, and the following year Marc Jacobs won the "Perry Ellis Award", a prize awarded to a new talent by the CFDA. In 1989, Marc Jacobs took control of Perry Ellis women's ready-to-wear, and in 1992, he was awarded the CFDA Women's Ready-to-Wear Designer Award for his grunge collection. In 1997, Marc Jacobs became Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton, with studio director Robert Duffy.

During the same period, the first Marc Jacobs boutique opens in New York, along with a second, younger line called "Marc by Marc Jacobs". The brand continued its ascent with a range of accessories, followed by the opening of boutiques in the United States, Europe and Asia. In early 2010, Marc Jacobs was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. In 2012, a Louis Vuitton - Marc Jacobs exhibition is presented at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris. On October 2, 2013, Marc Jacobs presented his last show for Louis Vuitton. Since then, he has devoted himself to his own brand.
