Founded in 1967 by Ralph Lauren, Polo Ralph Lauren is an American clothing brand. Real name Ralph Lifschitz, the designer was born in New York in 1939. At first, Ralph sold gloves at Brooks, then at Rivets des cravates, a Boston-based manufacturer. During this period, he also took evening business courses at City College.

His Russian-born father, a house painter, urged him to change his surname to bring a more bourgeois presentation to his project.
