Presbyopia and the aging eye

Presbyopia, which generally appears between the ages of 40 and 50, is not a disease: it's a natural evolution of the eye due to the aging of the crystalline lens. With age, the crystalline lens has difficulty focusing, and can become deformed and less flexible, causing vision problems.

The effects of presbyopia can be accompanied by headaches and eyestrain, making it essential to consult an ophthalmologist.

Symptoms are generally characterized by difficulties in close-up vision: vision becomes blurred and out of focus. For example, when reading a book, presbyopes tend to stretch out their arms to keep the book as far away from their eyes as possible. Wearing glasses with corrective lenses is therefore highly recommended.
