Vuarnet sports glasses
The Vuarnet brand was founded in Paris in 1957 by Roger Pouilloux, an optician with a passion for skiing. In his workshop on rue Boissy d'Anglas, he invented an exceptional lens: Skilynx. The purpose of this lens is to protect the eyes from the sun's rays on the slopes and provide a clear view of the terrain, even on overcast days.
Roger Pouilloux presents his lenses to Jean Vuarnet, a French alpine skier. He wore the lenses during the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympic downhill race and won the championship. Roger Pouilloux proposed a partnership with Vuarnet and gave his name to the brand. The Maison Vuarnet was born. From the 60s to the 90s, the brand's models became the benchmark for elegance on the slopes and in the city. In the 60s, many celebrities wore Vuarnet sunglasses: Romy Schneider... and Alain Delon in the film La Piscine.
A brand that made its mark in the 1970s
In the 1970s, the Le Glacier model was both high-performance and stylish. It was designed for mountaineering and adopted for city use. It enjoyed worldwide success with the Coens brothers' film The Big Lebowski. The brand enters the USA as an official sponsor of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the 80s. In the 90s, the brand developed a collection of highly technical sportswear and skiwear.
In 2015, the label transformed its Glacier model, created in the 70s. Removable shells can now be removed for a classic frame designed for everyday wear. The success of this high-tech and unique design seduced James Bond in the Opus Spectre.
Vincent Cassel (French actor, director and producer) becomes the brand's new ambassador in 2016. For its 60th anniversary, in 2017, the Vuarnet brand opens its first boutique in Paris 8ème, at 28, rue Boissy d'Anglas, the place where its history began.
To mark the occasion, the brand reissued a T-shirt featuring its famous logo. Such was its success that it is still collected by many fans. The excellence of the craftsmanship contributed to the French government's designation of the brand and the factory as a Living Heritage Company. In the same year, the brand launched Vuarnet Ice, combining high-performance materials with mineral sunglasses.
This collection of 8 models has a sleek design for driving, sailing, skiing, running and traveling.
Choose your eyewear according to your sporting activities
The purpose of wearing sports glasses is to protect your eyes from the sun's rays, but also to ensure clear vision.
in the mountains, choose frames with a good wrap-around fit to avoid side glare, and a protection factor of 3 or 4 to filter out the brightness of the sun's reflections on snow and ice. Photochromic lenses are recommended, as the protection factor and tint automatically change according to the light. at sea, there's strong light, glare, difficult weather conditions, fogging, wind...
Steel frames are preferable, as they are rustproof. Depending on the type of water sport you practice, choose goggles that cover, are curved, equipped with a strap and side protection shells.
If you practice a sport where blows are frequent, such as water polo, attach your goggles securely and make sure they are waterproof. Outdoor sports also require good eye protection. Light frames are the best choice, and a protection factor of 3 is the minimum.
Select a frame that adapts to your morphology so that it fits properly on your nose, and features a ventilation system to prevent fogging. As for lenses, choose photochromic and curved ones to improve your field of vision. You can opt for a frame with interchangeable lenses that allow you to adapt the lenses to the light conditions. Add a variety of coatings, including polarized, hydrophobic and anti-fog lenses.
