History and innovation: the rise of Demetz

The Demetz brand was founded in 1950. Roger Demetz was its founder. He was both a professional diver and an optician. Fascinated by both optics and diving, he opened his own optical store. As a diver, he wanted to find a solution for underwater vision. After much research, he created the first optical diving mask in 1953. It still took him 4 years of hard work before he filed the patent for his invention in 1957.

Pleased with this initial experience, he created the first optical swimming goggles in 1968, then went on to design other types of goggles dedicated to team sports, motorcycling, mountaineering, sliding, cycling, basketball, handball, badminton, squash... as well as models for teenagers and toddlers, from 6 months upwards.

Thanks to its research and various innovations, the brand has received numerous awards, including the Silmo d'or won 6 times and the Pont d'or and d'argent, recognizing the quality of its equipment for both children and adults.

For inline skating, golf, running, cycling, skiing and other board sports, the brand offers sports glasses that provides perfect protection against splashes, wind and rain. The frames are lightweight and can be fitted with a strap. To promote evaporation of perspiration and air circulation on the face, a ventilation system is fitted, as well as a screen offering a wide upward field of vision. Demetz has included photochromic lenses that tint according to light conditions, and interchangeable lenses that can be adapted to suit the weather. To maintain optimum vision, Demetz manufactures models with anti-fog lenses and side or front ventilation systems to circulate air. For both indoor and outdoor use, you'll find hydrophobic lenses that make it easier for water droplets to run off the outside of the lenses. To protect your lenses from impact, opt for plastic or, for corrective lenses, polycarbonate.

Do you go quad biking or motocross? Demetz has thought of you by designing sport goggles and anti-fog masks. The latter protect you from spray, wind, insects and dust. The mask is designed to be worn with a helmet, so as not to bother your nose bridge and forehead.
