MENICON contact lenses

In 1950, in Nagoya, Kyoichi Tanaka, MENICON's president, discovered contact lenses for the first time in his life thanks to the wife of an American army officer, a regular customer of the optical store where Kyoichi Tanaka worked. From that moment on, Kyoichi Tanaka wanted to reproduce contact lenses for distribution in his home country, Japan.

His first prototypes were made from aircraft windscreens in just three months. Production began in 1952. All the visually impaired appreciated this new medical device. The contact lenses were an immediate success. MENICON was officially registered as a trademark in 1967.

To mark the brand's 25th anniversary, MENICON France was officially opened in 1977. In 1993, MENICON France added a contact lens lotion manufacturing unit to its factory, ensuring quality control for all production.

As the brand prepares to open a new MENICON facility in the Paris region, it hopes to continue to prosper and meet the challenges of global performance. Today, the MEDICON label is known and recognized in ten countries.
