Ophthalmologist
An ophthalmologist, also known as an ophthalmologist or oculist, is a health professional who specializes in optics. By virtue of their profession, they are able to diagnose the various disorders and diseases that can affect the eyes and have repercussions on the quality of vision (myopia, strabismus, presbyopia, astigmatism, etc.).
The ophthalmologist may also treat eyelid pathologies such as glaucoma or styes. Endowed with a wide range of skills, the ophthalmologist must prevent, diagnose and treat his or her patients. The profession therefore requires advanced knowledge in fields as diverse as traumatology and neurology.
Every ophthalmological examination consists of different stages: visual acuity measurement, tonus measurement and visual field measurement. The ophthalmologist can also perform additional tests to detect more serious diseases that may, for example, be age-related.
Equipped with high-performance equipment, the ophthalmologist is able to detect the slightest anomaly and determine the most appropriate corrective measures. Depending on vision defects, the ophthalmologist may also perform corrective surgery.
