3D fitting of your glasses
Some time ago, we talked to you about virtual reality, a technology that uses a headset to transport you into an entirely virtual world. The parallel is often drawn between virtual reality and augmented reality, which are in fact two different technologies. Augmented reality can be used to let you try on pairs of glasses through your screen. Mymonture explains how it works.
There are two ways of trying on frames via a screen. Firstly, you can use a photograph of yourself stored on your computer. If you don't have a webcam connected directly to your computer, you can take a frontal photo of yourself and upload it to your computer. This way, you can try out the different frames directly on your photo. And if you're still unsure about which frames to choose, take a look at our blog post on choosing the right frame for your body type. The second way to try on 3D frames is directly via the webcam, and this is certainly the most popular way, as it puts augmented reality directly into practice.
But what exactly is augmented reality?
Augmented reality combines the real world with digital data in real time. In other words, a change in the real world leads to an adjustment in the digital layer. In concrete terms, if we take the application of augmented reality in the optical sector, this means that the virtual pair of glasses will automatically adjust to the contour of your face, which will be filmed in real time using a webcam.
Why such a device?
This system was set up because it enables online opticians, including Mymonture, to try on several frames for customers who are unable to travel to our showroom. The idea of setting up this system came about quite naturally. Indeed, it's sometimes difficult to get an idea of how a frame looks on our face, and augmented reality via 3D fitting is the solution that enables us to let you try on our frames directly.
Nevertheless, we recommend that you check the size of the glasses you are trying on before placing your order. The frame size corresponds to the width of the lens gauge, and you can find this measurement on the frame's product sheet. You can then compare this measurement with that of your frame (you'll find the frame measurement on the inside of the frame, usually between 40 and 60, separated from the width of the nose by a square).
Whatever the case, at Mymonture we've always wanted to offer you a wide choice of frames from a wide range of brands. We've also decided to let you virtually try on as many frames as possible, to help you choose the right optical equipment.
