Conjunctivitis
Acting as a barrier against external aggression, conjunctivitis is a transparent membrane covering the outer part of the eye and thus the inner part of the eyelid. By extension, this term has also given its name to a disease..
Conjunctivitis" is an inflammation of the conjunctiva following an external infection. Generally manifesting as blurred vision, sticky eyelids, itching and redness of the eye, conjunctivitis is fairly common but not very dangerous for vision. In fact, only the transparent membrane is affected, leaving the cornea unaffected.
Symptoms of conjunctivitis
As well as being highly contagious, conjunctivitis can also manifest itself through irritation and burning, and can quickly become very uncomfortable for the sufferer. As soon as the first symptoms appear, it's important to consult a doctor or ophthalmologist, who will be able to treat the condition with medical care. To prevent the spread of the disease, regular hand-washing is also highly recommended.
There are different types of conjunctivitis: toxic (due to prolonged exposure to fumes and toxic products), bacterial, viral or allergic. Allergic conjunctivitis is the most widespread, generally appearing in spring with pollen, and affecting both eyes at the same time.
