AMD

AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration) is an eye disease that progresses in stages, affecting over a million French people. First appearing after the age of 50, it affects almost 1 in 2 people by the age of 80. Aging is the main cause.

Altering detailed vision (reading, facial recognition...), AMD results in a reduction in visual acuity due to a loss of the center of the field of vision. In fact, this disease deteriorates the macula, the central part of the retina that enables fixation and observation. As a result, peripheral and lateral vision are damaged, severely affecting daily life. However, this disease does not lead to blindness.

Signs of AMD

AMD generally manifests itself through blurred vision, distorted perception of straight lines, lack of contrast sensitivity, the appearance of a black spot in the center of vision and color perception problems. To halt the progression of these symptoms, it is important to consult a specialist as soon as possible. Indeed, only medical treatment can limit the effects of this disease on the patient.
