Choosing the right frame style

Since the middle of the 20th century, eyeglasses and sunglasses have become as much a fashion accessory as jewelry, handbags and scarves.

At first, there were only round glasses, simple to make and ideal for fitting all corrections, then oval frames made their appearance. By the mid-1950s, designers were offering us their creativity to create beautiful collections and out-of-the-ordinary pieces.

The first frames to take off were the Aviator shapes, created to protect Air Force pilots. Since then, they have conquered the world. In the 1960s, the butterfly shape was a great success. The Wayfarer was adopted by the stars of the silver screen, who launched it onto the market. And its little sister, the New Wayfarer, thinner and lighter, followed suit.

Classic rectangular shapes still generate the same enthusiasm among men and women of all ages. Today's trend is for vintage style, brought up to date.

How to choose the right frames

There are a few rules to follow if you want your eyewear frames to suit your physiognomy, because your glasses are an integral part of your personality.

To do this, you need to know yourself and your face shape. Look at yourself in the mirror and observe. If you can't work out what shape you are, draw a line around your face with a felt-tip pen or lipstick, and the dominant geometric shape will appear on its own.

There are 7 face shapes to choose from: round, oval, triangular point up, triangular point down, square, rectangular or diamond-shaped.

  • - For round-faced individuals with no angles but curved lines, narrow, stretched frames with geometric shapes will help you refine and elongate your head. Choose a clear bridge to widen the gap between your eyes. If you like your face type, accentuate it by opting for frames with rounded shapes.
  • - The ideal shape for a face is the oval, because of its balanced features, and it's also the most common shape. The lucky ones will be able to dare all frame styles. From the most classic to the most modern, from the wisest to the most playful, all will suit your physiognomy. But don't let your personality get in the way. Rounded glasses will give you a youthful look, rectangular ones will accentuate your serious side, butterfly shapes will put you in the limelight. You can play around and change frames to suit your mood.
  • - A triangular face, pointed upwards, has a narrow forehead and a square chin. To harmonize your physiognomy, add width to the upper third. Choose frames with strong colors and eye-catching details. You'll prefer oval, butterfly or rectangular shapes with large frames.
  • - If, on the other hand, you have a triangular face with a wide forehead and a narrow chin, the aviator shape is for you. You'll love wearing pierced glasses: light and delicate, they'll make you forget you're wearing them. If you prefer acetate frames, opt for slim temples and pastel shades. Discreet, light frames will make you stand out.
  • - The square face has a broad forehead and strong jaw, but is well proportioned. Rectangular shapes will accentuate your personality. Oval or round frames soften your feminine side. Narrow frames in light metal will be one of your preferred choices. Square-faced men will opt for angular shapes to accentuate their masculine features.
  • - Rectangular or elongated faces are longer than they are wide, often with long noses. To balance this face, dare to wear frames that stand out, frames that are decorated and adorned with fantasy. Choose frames with a low bridge to give the illusion of a shorter nose. Women will love wearing glasses with "butterfly" or "cat-eye" shapes. These shapes will make you stand out and look great. You'll want to avoid rectangular shapes, which are too massive and thick and will harden your face. If you like oversized frames, choose thin ones.
  • - Diamond or diamond-shaped faces, which are very rare, have wide cheekbones. For you, small frames will be your first choice. Gentlemen, try oval or geometric frames; rectangular frames will give you the flawless look you're looking for. As for elongated faces, butterfly or "cat-eye" shapes will make you more beautiful. Ladies, with them, you'll discover your inner seductress.
  • A few other tips...

As well as the shape of your face, there are other aspects of your physique to consider, so you don't make any mistakes. Here are a few tips to help you make the right choice. The top of the frame should always be just below your eyebrows, so as not to lose your expressions. Your eyebrows are the indicators of this, and hiding them under the frame would be unsightly.

Depending on how far apart your eyes are, opt for a different bridge. A dark color will bring your eyes closer together. A light, narrow bridge will bring your eyes closer together. The bridge is the part of the frame that sits on the bridge of your nose.

Choose frames that fit the width of your head, neither too narrow nor too wide. In any case, even if you like a pair of glasses, take the time to try them on. Follow our optician's advice, and he'll guide you in your choice of frames according to your correction, so you won't be disappointed when you receive your glasses.
