Children's eyewear: style, comfort and quality in the spotlight

Children's eye examinations should not be neglected. Statistics show that one in 6 children under the age of 5 suffers from eye problems. The causes can have serious consequences, including delays in learning to read. If detected early, children's eyes can be treated effectively. If your child complains of watery eyes, eye pain, irritation or migraine, don't hesitate to consult an ophthalmologist.

Protecting the eyes of babies and children is a duty for parents. Once your ophthalmologist has advised you to wear glasses, all you have to do is select the pair best suited to your child. A number of leading brands have addressed this issue, so that children can pursue their various activities, including sports, without discomfort.

Brands with children's well-being in mind

Paul & Joe and MyMonture are two brands that invest in children's eyewear. MyMonture opticians think of your children. Here's a reminder! In 2012, two of us created our website: a state-qualified optician and an internet enthusiast. We felt we complemented each other when it came to putting major brand frames online and selecting lenses from the French Essilor group. Essilor designs and manufactures corrective lenses.

The major brands quickly put their trust in us, and we were awarded NF ISO 12931 certificates attesting to the authenticity of the products we sell. It's a real advantage for our customers to know that they're buying authentic products. Since the creation of our website, we've gone a long way towards obtaining French national health insurance and complementary health insurance accreditation, enabling us to offer third-party payment. By selecting children's eyewear, you can choose to pay nothing at all. With MyMonture, your children can choose the frames they like and enjoy wearing.

The Paul & Joe brand was created in the early 1990s by Sophie Méchaly. Finding men's fashion rather morose, she decided to bring a certain renewal. The mother of two little boys, Paul and Joe, she named her company after them. A frequent traveler, Sophie Méchaly likes to combine her wardrobe with accessories. Eyewear is one of them. Her interest in children led her to create a collection of clothes for them under the Little Paul & Joe brand.

In a playful, fairy-tale universe, she offers children's eyewear, true fashion items rich in color and in search of top-of-the-range products. Like their parents, Little Paul & Joe enables children to combine their clothes with their eyewear. Paul & Joe is a brand that appeals to children for its noble materials, floral prints, comfort and elegance.

Help your children choose their eyewear

As with men and women, the shape of children's glasses must respect certain criteria. Children with square faces can easily adopt oval or rounded glasses to soften their features. As for round faces, square models with wide contours are perfect for them.

When it comes to lenses, it's important to know that for distance vision, your child uses the upper half of the lens, and for close-up vision, he or she lowers the head rather than the eyes. The materials used in children's glasses are also important. Metal frames are generally to be avoided, as they can injure your child, as are nylon and rubber frames.

Cellulose acetate, on the other hand, is highly recommended. This plastic material comes in a range of colors, giving children a wide choice. They can even find their favorite characters. For toddlers' comfort, choose extra-flat temples. As for corrective lenses, they will of course follow the doctor's prescription, but remain vigilant in the face of the sun's ultraviolet rays. As children's eyes are so sensitive, it's strongly recommended that you choose a lens that includes a U.V. filter. Once you've decided on a pair of children's eyeglasses that you're enthusiastic about, it's time for the final step: fitting.

With MyMonture, you can use our tips to measure your child's pupillary distance. If all this seems complicated, you can ask your ophthalmologist to include this value on the prescription. On our website and in one of our stores, you'll find all the features and practical information you need (reference, prices incl. VAT, delivery times, etc.). You'll see that quality at an affordable price is possible at MyMonture. Finally, if you encounter any problems or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask one of our opticians by e-mail, chat, contact form or telephone on 03 21 91 40 40.
