Do you regularly notice dirt or marks on your eyewear? We're in daily contact with dust, micro-particles and pollution, and even when we're cooking or cleaning we come into contact with multiple micro-projections. So it's perfectly normal to have glasses that are often dirty. But you're wondering how to care for them properly on a daily basis, how to clean them properly? Don't panic, MyMonture has the solution! Here are a few tips on how to care for your glasses properly and without damaging them.
tip 1. Washing under water
First of all, you need clean hands to have a clean pair of glasses.
step 1: Wash your hands
It's important to wash your hands thoroughly so as not to leave any dirt or marks on your lenses during cleaning.
step 2: Wipe your hands with a clean, lint-free cloth
It's important to wipe your hands with a lint-free cloth. This reduces the risk of particle deposits on the glass, which could damage it by creating scratches.
step 3: Take your frame and run it under running water
Make sure the water temperature is neither too hot nor too cold to avoid fogging after drying. Running your lenses under water will remove all dust and micro-particles that could damage your lenses.
step 4 Clean your glasses with a neutral washing-up liquid
Just one small drop on each glass is enough for cleaning. All other products risk leaving traces or a layer of grease on the lenses which could impair vision. If you're not sure, don't hesitate to ask your MyMonture optician for advice on whether or not your product is suitable for cleaning glasses.
step 5: Rub your lenses with your fingers
Lightly and gently rub the lenses between your fingers to apply the washing-up liquid to the entire surface and clean the lenses thoroughly. Make sure that the edges of the lenses are thoroughly cleaned, as well as the middle plates and temples of the frames.
step 6: Rinse your lenses
You can now rinse your lenses by rinsing them again under lukewarm water. Make sure there's no product left. Otherwise, you run the risk of leaving a layer of grease on your lenses that will impair your vision. You can then see whether your lenses are clean or not. If you're not using your glasses, make sure you always replace them in their case. This ensures that they won't get scratched.
step 7: Wipe your lenses
Once you've rinsed your glasses, you can proceed to drying them. Again, use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. This will prevent any scratches on your lenses.
tip 2: Cleaning wipes and sprays
If you don't necessarily have the time to wash your glasses using the first method, there's nothing to stop you using cleaning sprays.
step 1: Wipe your glasses
Use a microfiber cloth, an eyeglass cloth or a lint-free cloth to remove all dirt and micro-particles. This will prevent scratches during cleaning.
step 2: Apply the spray
Specially designed for cleaning eyewear, this spray is perfect for cleaning glasses. Apply the spray evenly to both sides of the lens.
step 3: Wipe lenses
You can now wipe your glasses again with a microfiber cloth or a special cloth for glasses. Make sure you wipe the edges of the lenses to avoid leaving any residue. Same method for cleaning cloths! Make sure you wipe first with the cloth before cleaning with the wipe! Now you can check that your glasses are clean, put them on and enjoy your day.
Tip 3: What not to do!
1. Never wipe your glasses with your clothes
Clothes can leave behind lint and micro-particles that can damage your lenses. What's more, the presence of buttons on clothing, which is fairly common, can scratch your lenses. Just like tissues, paper towels... which leave traces and small flakes of lint.
2. Avoid household products too
Their composition could damage your lenses by leaving a greasy coating, which could also lead to fogging. But above all, the substances they contain could damage the treatment of your lenses.
Scratches, whether thin or thick, impair vision and cause everyday discomfort. Once a scratch has been created, the only solution is to replace the lens. Proper care of your eyewear will not only ensure your daily comfort, but also optimal vision. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact your MyMonture opticians, who will be delighted to give you all the advice you need on how to care for your glasses.
