In the healthcare sector, a new regulatory framework comes into force from April 1, 2015 via the 2014 Finance Law. The aim is to improve the conditions under which healthcare costs are reimbursed and thus lower healthcare tariffs.
A system of caps on reimbursements for healthcare costs has been in place since April 1, 2015. The "contrat responsable" (responsible contract) is one of the key elements. In order to benefit from tax and social aid, it is now imperative to comply with the rules imposed by the so-called responsible contract.
Responsible contract and ceiling on optical reimbursements
The ceiling on reimbursements by complementary health insurance companies is set on the basis of the amount of the co-payment. Of course, the optical sector has not escaped this, despite the discontent expressed by all opticians.
Here are the details of the new optical ceilings:
- - Reimbursement of frames is set at a maximum of 150 euros
- - Reimbursement for single vision lenses is set at between 50 euros and 470 euros
- - Complex (progressive) lenses are reimbursed up to a maximum of 850 euros
2.3 million people say they don't wear glasses or don't renew them because of the cost. One of the aims of the 2014 Finance Act is to bring down prices and establish a better balance in reimbursements. While some will see their optical reimbursements capped, others will now benefit from better reimbursements.
