Choosing a frame is often a tricky business, especially when it comes to the shape of the eyewear. It will reflect your personality and be part of your look. Today, Mymonture gives you all the tips you need to choose your next pair of glasses.
In order to choose the right frame, it's essential to determine which shape your face most closely resembles. Face shapes can be classified into 5 categories:
Faces
Round
The round face is as long as it is wide, with rounded mouths and cheekbones.
Square/rectangular
When you have a square face, you have an angular jawline and contours, as well as a broad forehead.
Oval
This is the most common and balanced face shape, with jaw and cheekbones of equal width. Features are often harmonious and soft.
Triangular
This type of face is easy to recognize, with a broad forehead and narrow chin. The cheekbones are not very prominent.
Elongated
The elongated face is similar to the oval, but is longer and less wide. In general, your jaw and cheekbones are the same width.
Frames
Now that you've determined the shape of your face, we can move on to the frame shapes best suited to each profile.
For round faces
The aim here is to give your face structure and angles to counterbalance the roundness. Rectangular frames or frames that are wider than they are tall will harmonize the face.
Boss frames
We don't recommend: round glasses, which will only accentuate the shape of your face.
If you have this type of face, we suggest you take a look here at the frames that are best suited to you.
For square and rectangular faces
This is the opposite of the previous case, i.e. your face is characterized by straight, angular features. In this case, we'd recommend glasses with a minimum of angles, such as round, oval or butterfly frames, always with the aim of harmonizing your face.

Tom Ford frames
We don't recommend angular glasses, which would only amplify the "square" side of your face.

For oval faces
This is considered ideal because it's perfectly proportioned. So, if you have an oval-shaped face, you can afford to wear all types of frames.
We have only one thing to say to you: let yourself be tempted!
For triangular faces
The aim is to minimize the width of the upper part of the face, and sober frames are generally preferred. Go for slim oval or rectangular frames, while contour-free frames also look good on your face.
Avoid frames that are too high or slope down over the cheekbones.

Finally, let's come to the last family of faces, the elongated or "oblong" ones
Our aim here is to harmonize the face by pulling it horizontally. To achieve this, we choose frames that are wider than they are tall. This will make your face appear less high, and the whole look all the more aesthetically pleasing.
Jaguar frame
Continuing the same line of reasoning, we advise against frames that are round, narrow or as wide as they are high, which would only accentuate the length of your face.
